PLOCEAN project is developed by a partnership of two institutes, GEOMAR in Europe as home institute and HBOI in the USA as partner institute. The project has a 2-years outgoing phase at HBOI and one-year return phase at GEOMAR.

GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is a world-wide leading institute of marine research, investigating chemical, physical, biological and geological processes of the seafloor, oceans and ocean margins and their interactions with the atmosphere. GEOMAR is among the three leading institutions in the field of marine sciences in Europe. Jointly with the National Oceanography Centre in the United Kingdom and Ifremer in France, GEOMAR has established the “G3 group” of national marine research centres.
HARBOR BRANCH OCEANOGRAPHIC INSTITUTE OF FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY
Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is located in Fort Pierce on the Atlantic Coast. As one of the nation’s premier oceanographic centers, FAU Harbor Branch's research community of approximately 200 ocean scientists, staff and students drives innovation in: marine science and engineering; conservation of coral reefs, studies of marine mammals and fisheries; marine drug discovery; estuarine and coastal ecology and observation; ocean dynamics and modeling; aquaculture and marine science education. Harbor Branch engages with the community through the Ocean Discovery Visitors Center and the Ocean Science Lecture Series. Harbor Branch’s research and outreach programs translate marine science in order to provide solutions that improve economies and quality of life for coastal communities.
